Cork & Thorn - Bar Rescue Update

In this week's episode of Bar Rescue, Jon Taffer and crew are in once again in Las Vegas, Nevada to rescue Cork & Thorn.  Cork & Thorn is a wine bar and floral emporium owned by Randi Garrett.  She has run a successful floral business for decades and decided she could parlay that success into a successful bar.  Her concept was working until the pandemic hit, and now she finds herself about $200,000 in debt.

During the Bar Rescue makeover, Jon Taffer decided to keep the name of Cork & Thorn like all bars so far during this season. Let's take a look at some information, reviews, and updates for Cork & Thorn since Bar Rescue came and made all of the changes to the bar (All reviews are post-Bar Rescue):

Positive Reviews:
  • "Such a cute spot! They have hookah! Delicious snacks & great cocktail menu. Great atmosphere. The open mic night was a blast. Try this place out for sure"
  • "Cork and Thorn NEVER disappoints. I relocated here from the south and was concerned I would not find what I needed in Vegas. This is by far my TOP CHOICE in kick it spots. The owners and staff are also amazing. When people remember you and what you drink, you never mind spending your money. Thank you Cork and Thorn!"
  • "Fun. Seemed like everyone knew each other. Good friends, felt fun n safe. Hot guys"
  • "If you want native flavor from a cool owner who relaxes and engages with you, live music and dj- infused soulful lounge with a tad bit of club (but not too much!) in a juke-joint, speakeasy styled, backalley spot right smack dab in the heart of Las Vegas' art district, then this is the place for you"
  • "Every time I’m in town Cork & Thorn is a must. The vibes and music.... unmatched. Lowkey but still a great time. Great service and nice eccentric finger foods"
  • "came for a private birthday party, pleasantly surprised, very nice place, the staff is awesome, very comfortable, I will be back and back, nice place for us locals to enjoy"
  • "The staff is AMAZING. This was my first time visiting this location, but everything was on point and the food and drink were delicious! Can't wait to come back!"
  • "It's a nice lil spot for people to showcase their talent while you sip on something. Make sure you make a reservation!"

Negative Reviews:
  • "I really wanted to like this place since it's a wine bar less than 2 miles from my condo. But sadly was very disappointed. For what they charge per glass of wine I was absolutely appalled they serve it in plastic cups. But yet some other customers I saw had proper wine glasses so I'm not sure how they choose who is good enough for a glass and who gets a plastic cup. Hubby and I went with the intention of staying awhile and enjoying a charcuterie platter but after getting a plastic cup of wine we left after our first drink and went over to Garagiste instead...which I highly recommend going to instead of this trash place."
  • "Don't make a reservation here. They give you no way of canceling and charge you $50. I tried calling and no one answers. They allow no option online. Their Instagram turns off comments because it's all people saying their policy is BS when they make themselves unreachable."
  • "If I could give one star I would. This place is a circus. The owner is always drunk off her ass and giving lap Dances to guests. This place always has 200-300 people inside (obviously they don't care about the governors COVID-19 mandates). They do not care if you wear a mask or not . Waited 30 minutes for a drink from the bar and never received the hookah that I ordered...witnessed the owner making her own drinks and taking them back to her section along with her hookah. Who cares about paying customers when you own the joint right ? Four employees from this location have tested positive for COVID and owner RANDI GARRETT doesn't care .. nor does she share the information with the staff. All of them could have covid and not even know it. STAY AWAY FROM HERE .."
  • "Had a reservation for 9pm. Arrived and got seated and 45 mins goes by and no waitress to take drink orders. Disappointing. Saw what appears to be a manager walking around doing nothing. I didnt feel up to begging someone to take our money so we left. Drink before you go."

Conclusion:

Jon Taffer decided to keep the name of Cork & Thorn and the reviews since the Bar Rescue makeover have been mostly positive with people liking the staff, atmosphere, and live entertainment.  There were a few complaints about the service and some of the policies/logistics of the bar.  Like other Las Vegas bars from this season, as tourism picks back up in Las Vegas this bar should be able to turn things around.
