In this week's episode of Bar Rescue, Jon Taffer and crew are in Kirkwood, Georgia to rescue Urban Pie. The bar is a pizza place with a confused identity and the owner is micromanaging things. During recon, the bar is serving cocktails out of a can and the pizza dough seems like it is purchased instead of made fresh. Jon needs to overhaul the concept and confront the owner's destructive leadership style to save the bar.
During the Bar Rescue makeover, Jon Taffer decided to keep the name of Urban Pie and added "Bar & Pizzeria" to the end of it. Let's take a look at some information, reviews, and updates for Urban Pie Bar & Pizzeria since Bar Rescue came and made all of the changes to the bar (All reviews are post-Bar Rescue):
Positive Reviews:
- "Time to check out the newly renovated Urban Pie! There were several people at the bar and a big group playing cards on the patio. We ordered the new burrata salad for an app and a couple of drinks. Man that salad is delicious!! The garlic bread is so tasty! Then we had the Thunderbird pizza. The pesto sauce is superb and the crust was done just right. The server Jen was on top of things and very attentive and friendly. The owner Lisa stopped by the table to check in and say hi also! Highly recommend."
- "My wife and I have been coming here for nearly 16 years. Good pizza, good vibes, good neighborhood place. They've recently been through the "bar rescue" treatment and it's been an improvement. The pizza options have expanded and so has the drink menu. Salads are especially good and I'm a fan of the calzones. This is just a neighborhood place that has become a family favorite."
- "My wife and I have lived in the Kirkwood/East Atlanta area for 4 years and we just made the decision to go here Friday night. Can’t believe we’ve missed out on such a great place for so long! The pizza was incredible and we are now addicted to the lemon pepper Caesar salad. The owner Lisa makes you feel like a regular from day one, and same goes for everyone else on the staff! Can’t recommend it here enough!"
- "Sat at the bar. Jess is great! NJ Native (sorry-lol) finding good pizza is hard. Fellini’s is good but consistent thin crust is not an option there. Urban Pie is amazing!! Great Pizza"
- "Fun spot close to home, the pizza I had was from the menu and was a unique combo of toppings that I enjoyed. Good crust and not greasy, and a bartender who knew his stuff. Will definitely be back."
- "I want the businesses in my neighborhood to succeed so badly, which is why I was really looking forward to trying the revamped Urban Pie after its appearance on Bar Rescue. Sadly, I can't speak to the updated menu because we didn't even get to make it that far.... Despite watching us come in, sit down, wait, and ultimately leave, they still didn't say a word to us. I know Urban Pie has long been criticized for its crappy service among the neighborhood, and sadly, it seems like that's not improved along with the other updates."
- "Can't be bothered to update their menus, prices have more than DOUBLED since bar rescue. Bar rescue did not do any rescuing at all. would have been better to just put the whole thing down. Owner lets her dog run loose in the kitchen, food was cold and congealed, they gave us 6 menus but only one of them was the "real" menu, which just had childlike crosses and circles over the few menu items they have left. "
- "We were genuinely excited to give this place a second chance, especially after hearing it had been on Bar Rescue. We had previously stayed away due to awful service, but thought, maybe they'd turned things around. Spoiler: they haven't. To say we were disappointed would be putting it mildly. You can't slap lipstick on a pig and call it filet mignon--and honestly, I would've respected an unapologetic pig more. The nicest thing I can say is the cosmetic Changes they made were clean and modern but at total odds with the service experience.....Urban Pie is a textbook example of how not to run a restaurant. The service is abysmal, the operations are a mess, and the attitude is worse. I wouldn't recommend this place to my worst enemy."

Conclusion:
Jon Taffer decided to keep the name of Urban Pie, but added Bar & Pizzeria to the end of the name. I would say this is more of a restaurant than a bar, especially with the hours that they close. The reviews for Urban Pie are mixed with people liking the makeover and the pizzas, while there are some complaints about service. It seems that Urban Pie is happy with the makeover and have kept a lot of the menu items given to the by Bar Rescue. One thing they didn't keep was the dough recipe as they went back to their original recipe after it didn't meet their standards and customers provided feedback.
