On tonight's episode of Bar Rescue, Jon Taffer and crew are
headed to Nashville, Tennessee to rescue BoondoxXx BBQ. BoondoxXx BBQ is a bar suffering from a dated concept that Jon will try to turn around. During the Bar Rescue makeover, BoondoxXx BBQ was renamed to Pit and Barrel.
Let's take a look at some information, reviews, and updates of Pit and Barrel in Nashville since Bar Rescue came and made all of the changes to the bar.
News and Links:
Conclusion:
Despite the bar just opening in January of this year, it is already in need of help from Bar Rescue? It seems like the owner may have tried to do too much at once with trying to renovate and open two restaurants at the same time.
This was definitely a case where a name change was needed for the bar as the spelling of BoondoxXx is pretty bad. It is even annoying to type.
UPDATE 11/24/2013 - Most of the links above are now broken due to Pit and Barrel deactivating their Facebook page. The owner of the bar shot and killed a man at the bar on Saturday, so who knows if tonight's episode will air. Here is more information on the shooting incident.
UPDATE 11/25/2013 - Spike TV actually aired the encore episode of the Pit and Barrel episode. More information with screenshots here.
Let's take a look at some information, reviews, and updates of Pit and Barrel in Nashville since Bar Rescue came and made all of the changes to the bar.
- The only review of Pit and Barrel after the Bar Rescue makeover was "The smoked wings are fall off the bone tender with the perfect amount of smoked flavor and the place has a real chill atmosphere. They are new and probably experiencing growing pains but give em a chance, the food is great! My wife and I will definitely go back."
- The reviews before the makeover were average to above average and people seemed to like the food.
- There was a negative review about the owner Chris Michaels because he towed someone's car from a parking lot of another property he owns (more on that below).
News and Links:
- Here is the Pit and Barrel Facebook Page and Twitter Page.
- The website for Pit and Barrel is just a menu, which only has 4 food items and a couple cocktails listed.
- Last month, Pit and Barrel added a new patio on the side of the building. (Link)
- Pit and Barrel is having a viewing party for their episode tonight and offering free BBQ. (Link)
- The owner originally wanted the name Boondocks, but it was taken already, so he went with BoondoxXx, with the x's representing whiskey in the prohibition days. (Link)
- The owner of Pit and Barrel, Chris Michaels, also has been trying to open another place called the Hot Rod Grille. He has been promising that it is 'coming soon' for over a year on the Facebook Page of The Hot Rod Grille, but it has yet to open.

The man he shot and killed was a county singer from Alabama.
ReplyDeleteIt was A damn fine country singer named Wayne Mills. He is a former Crimson Tide Football player and an Outlaw Country icon. He helped guys like Blake Shelton and Jamey Johnson cut their country music teeth. He will be missed.
ReplyDeleteLooks like instead of a bar rescue the owner needs a little rescuing of his soul. Praying for the family and friends of Wayne Mills and if this episodes airs tonight I WILL NOT watch this show. Very sad situation!
ReplyDeleteI will not watch this episode. If this episode airs I will never watch another episode of this show.
ReplyDeleteNo show! The bar owner is a cold blooded killer!
ReplyDeleteRIP WAYNE MILLS... This bar and the owner will hopefully have his day in court and found guilty..... shooting someone three times and one of the three shots being to the head is not self defense. Praying for justice and for Wayne's family...
ReplyDeleteNewsflash! Spike TV rescheduled tonight's episode for December 8, 2013. Spike TV pulled the episode from the listings as of early this morning.
ReplyDeleteI worked there at times, and was not on the show, but there for the reveal. We left after not being able to get a drink (had to beg for water!) after an hour and a half! I wanted to see how they'd spin the show, but after the tragic events this weekend I am glad to see it not air.
ReplyDeleteGood call not airing the show! RIP Wayne Mills! Prayers for his family! I surly hope this hot headed "bar" owner is brought to justice!
ReplyDeleteMessed up.... not being aired obviously
ReplyDeleteI hope justice will be served. Please pray for the friends & family of Wayne Mills. He was a great musician. Most of all a father, husband, & a good man. Let's not forget that!! I hope the owner of the bar gets life in prison. Murder is murder when it's in cold blood. Spike TV would be stupid to air this episode. I'll never watch that show or channel again if they do. So sad..
ReplyDeleteIt was not on during the normal time tonight... but this episode is now airing at the 1am EST repeat time. Interesting.
ReplyDeleteMurdered for SMOKING!? OUTSIDE!? Was this on the new precious patio that they just added? RIDICULOUS!
ReplyDeleteI wonder how/ this will affect his current situation and/or the trial? I have never heard of Wayne, nor The Pit and Barrel, but being from Alabama, this case caught my attention. If the two were indeed friends, I can't imagine this being anything but an alcohol related incident - a lapse of reasoning - and a horrific tragedy for both men and their families and I would hate for the owner to suffer even more for the loss of his friend, but then again, it could the wake up call he needs. From what I see from the show thus far, he definitely has an anger problem and he'd be hard pressed to have a fair trial. So very sad...
ReplyDeleteThey pulled it of for the 9pm showing, but showing it at midnight.
ReplyDeleteEpisode aired at 12
ReplyDeleteThe episode was aired at 12
ReplyDeleteThey aired the show at 12.
ReplyDeleteThey aired the show at 12...
ReplyDeleteThe episode was showed anyway at 12
ReplyDeleteYou need to watch this. Episode so you see. What a asshole that owner is may he rot in hell
ReplyDeleteAfter saying they would not air the Pit and Barrel episode, it aired at midnight. All the profits from tonight's show was paid for with the blood of Brother Wayne Mills. Airing this show 48 hours after the owner killed Wayne is beyond tasteless.
ReplyDeleteI guess Spike TV's decency and respect for the family only lasted for three hours because it just aired. Real classy, Spike!
ReplyDeleteI watched 90% of the episode before I even realized that this is about the bar that I heard on the news this morning. After watching how he treated his employees, the guys from ' Bar Rescue', his HORRIBLE temper tantrums, and how he flew off the handle, I'd convict him in less time than it took him to pull that trigger!
ReplyDeleteDid you watch it?
ReplyDeleteExactly.... seems they could use this as evidence in the trial to show his inability to control his temper since the jackass is claiming it was "self defense".
ReplyDeleteNo, I have my DVR set to record BR every week at midnight and clicked it on for a second and saw that it was on. I'll keep it and watch it some day, maybe.
ReplyDeleteSTFU!! you r the biggest biatch azz judgmental hypocrite ever!! if it was soooo bad in taste to air it, you would've stop the dvr IMMEDIATELY!! Fricken liar!! u just cant resist the opportunity to talk down to or about someone!! you puzzy!
ReplyDeleteOwner act like a Lil kid, look like a bitch ass cowboy.needs ass kicking.
ReplyDeleteIm watching the show now,so he killed someone ?. He sucks at bbq
ReplyDeleteomg, stop taking your anger out on bar rescue!! it doesnt matter anyways, the show will REMAIN A HIGHLY WATCHED SHOW AND WILL NOT SUFFER IF YOU NEVER EVER WATCH AGAIN IN YOUR ENTIRE LIFE!! so your loss!! ha ha!! donate to wayne's fund if you r soooo mad. but too bad u wont be able to see the future bomb azz episodes of bar rescue!! idiots!
ReplyDeleteBar look better

ReplyDeleteAsshole
Calm down son, you aren't going to shut anyone down.
ReplyDeleteHopefully he loses his bar, he shouldn't be in the bar business after this. Probably never should have been.
ReplyDeleteLMAO!! Oh im soooo scared scrappy. instead of making unrealistic & moronic comments like that, try having a brain and actually explain why u disagree with what i said. you have the same problem solving skills as the bar owner! get help.

Spike TV just issued an apology for airing the show.
ReplyDelete"On tonight's episode of Bar Rescue, Jon Taffer and crew are
ReplyDeleteheaded to Nashville, Tennessee to rescue BoondoxXx BBQ."
My ass.
thank you!
ReplyDelete1-800-scrappyisa-bitch
ReplyDeleteIt showed the bar owner for who he is. Abusive, controlling, lazy, ungrateful, and as his mom said a con artist since he was young.
ReplyDeleteI figured you were too chicken shit.
ReplyDelete205-442-6960 if you ain't too skeered to call me wuss
ReplyDeleteFrom SpikeTV's Twitter: @SpikeTV: Fans, we apologize for our late-night telecast of a sensitive episode of Bar Rescue. See full statement here: http://t.co/OkQ51xd5e0
ReplyDeletehow dispicable of he Chris Ferrell...there is simply NOTHING that could have been said to provoke you to shot a man in the head for lighting a cigarette....WTF...i am a Nashville resident and frequent customer to Downtown...you have lost my business FOREVER...I dont care how good you think you are...NO ONE DESERVES THIS...and especially NOT Wayne Mills and his wife and son...
ReplyDeleteThe name of the owner is different in this story from the name in the news. Who was the actual owner?
ReplyDeleteHis full name is Chris Michael Ferrell, but goes by the stage name of Chris Michaels
ReplyDeleteI am GLAD I was able to see the episode here in NYC. When Taffer arrived, the bar was filthy, with feces, rats, rotten food, etc. Imagine that owner shooting someone for smoking?! And the posted closing time was 3am...The man was smoking when the bar was closed for 2 hrs already! I hope that episode is used as evidence in the trial for that killing of that innocent smoker, and I hope the bar owner might learn that being a mouthy, abusive bully doesn't work so well in lockup! My heart goes out to the friends and family of the victim, and to the parents of the bar owner, who gave all their money to him to open that bar.
ReplyDeleteI don't think so. I don't think airing the show was a disrespect to the victim. It had nothing at all to do with the victim or his family or friends. They were not in the episode. But the shooter was, with his big abusive mouth and bad temper. And his bar was so filthy, with feces, rats, rotten food, until Tapper cleaned it up...I can't imagine why he'd be angry at anyone smoking a cigaret.
ReplyDeleteIt wasn't in poor taste to air that episode. The victim wasn't in it. So why would it be poor taste? It just showed the bad side of the shooter.
ReplyDeleteI feel sorry for the shooters parents, who gave all their savings to him to open that bar. I hope they don't lose the bar because of their son, who killed that poor man for smoking.
ReplyDeleteI give you credit for working for that abusive jerk (as he appeared on the show). The episode was good. I hope they can use it to help lock him up for shooting and killing that innocent smoker. The shooter appeared to have a relationship with the really skinny barmaid with the blond and black striped hair. I wonder how she is holding up. She seemed sweet, and looked very broken down in spirit on the show.
ReplyDeleteThats stupid. If you are so against the shooter, you should be HAPPY they would air the episode, because it shows his temper, his verbal abuse to his staff...It shows him in a very bad light.
ReplyDeleteI agree. And he will get an attitude adjustment -- BIGTIME -- in lockup!
ReplyDeleteFun fact: the bar-tending expert for this episode, Trevor Frye, and the bar "employee" Mariesa Isbell have been dating for at least a year before this episode had been shot. The production team needs to be smarter, lest the show lose its 'reality TV' designation. Sloppy fakery.
ReplyDeleteJohn you rude as*hole that need to keep your comments to your self did your mother teach if you can not say something to not say again @ all.
ReplyDeleteThe SpikeTV website for Bar Rescue isn't even promoting clips of this episode. I am guessing they are trying to figure out whether or not to even put up on the site.
ReplyDeleteI was actually launching my BBQ food truck during the filming of this episode and the show's caterer was at the same commissary. We got to be somewhat close. I wanted to try this place when it was called Boondocks, (for R&D and market reasons), but the door was always locked. I wanted to see the episode, as insensitive at that may sound. But that place can burn to the ground after what that a-hole did.
ReplyDeleteYou're an idiot. Learn to check what you wrote before sending. No sense!
ReplyDeleteI saw it, Chris the owner does have a short temper. I ant help but think that Taffer wanted it known what this guy was like. I do not really see how it is a discredit to Wayne s family, however Chris's family will have a tough time defending him after the display of his short temper and the way he treated his staff. This guy was a ticking time bomb.
ReplyDeleteIt looks like this episode will not be airing. A repeat was played instead and now that I've read this I can't say I'm surprised. Good for the Bar Rescue folks for showing respect to all the families involved in this tragedy and not playing the episode.
ReplyDeleteThis Dude is George Zimmerman personified.
ReplyDeleteFor those living in the Nashville area and that may be familiar with Wedgewood Avenue, there is an old building that was once a restaurant a couple years ago (just after you pass the Fairgrounds), and the whiteboard out front reads 'Pit and Barrel Coming Soon.' I am curious to know if anyone else has seen this and has any information. It seems as if Chris was looking to relocate the business... to an area where a business has yet to succeed in that location. This location is across the street from a school, and in between several dilapidated houses.
ReplyDeleteso no loss? thats racist man
ReplyDeleteguess smoking can kill you
