Bar Rescue - Badlands Country Nightclub (Longshots) Update

On tonight's episode of Bar Rescue, Jon Taffer and crew are headed to Grain Valley, Missouri to rescue Longshots bar.  Longshots is a sports bar, with no TV's, which has a 'timid owner and belligerent bartenders' that Jon will try unite in a common cause.  During the Bar Rescue makeover, Longshots was renamed to Badlands Country Nightclub.

Let's take a look at some information, reviews, and updates of Badlands Country Nightclub since Bar Rescue came and made all of the changes to the bar.

There have been no reviews of Badlands Country Nightclub since Bar Rescue did the makeover.

Other Links:
  • The location where Badlands is has been many different businesses over the years, most recently D A's Bar and Charley's Roadhouse.  Might not be the best location.
  • Here is the Badlands Country Nightclub Facebook Page, and a Longshots Grain Valley one.
  • Badlands Country Nightclub created an event on Facebook for a viewing party that said:
"Come watch the premiere of our BAR RESCUE episode on SpikeTV at ALL THREE BARS (Edge of Town, Vertigo, & Badlands Country Nightclub)! We will be featuring al the food & drinks on the show and taking votes on the best actor/actresses. Come watch the drama unfold!! (and us making complete asses of ourselves)
AFTER PARTY at the renovated BADLANDS until 3 am, where we will be presenting awards for the stars of the show.
It shall be interesting...so come support the best staff around!"
  • The Edge of Town bar is in Blue Springs, MO, just 5 miles away from Grain Valley, MO.  Here are 2 Facebook pages for Edge of Town (first, second)
  • Vertigo is also a bar in Blue Springs, MO and here is the Facebook page for that bar, and the watch party event at that bar with some comments saying the show was 'scripted' and 'should be fun to watch.'  Comments on the event included Taylor and Keller from the episode. (Taylor and Keller Facebook pages).  Here is Keller's Twitter too.
  • It appears that there is the owner is the same for all 3 bars as they all promote each other on their Facebook pages and bartenders from the show appear on the other pages as well.

Conclusion:

It looks like this is another case of Bar Rescue coming to a bar that probably doesn't need the help as they have 3 different bars.  It also sounds like the bar is playing up the manufactured drama with them calling the show 'scripted' and 'taking votes for best actor/actresses.'  The bar gets what they want - a free makeover and publicity, while the show gets what they want - drama that is good for TV.

Update - On Twitter, Taylor from the show confirmed that the owner does own three different bars and this was a "very accurate" update. (Link)

UPDATE - Badlands is now closed.

UPDATE 2 - On a Back to the Bar episode in July 2018, it was confirmed that Badlands was closed and Mark's other bar was featured on the show.

UPDATE 3 - Mark and Ozzie's other bar Edge of Town - Renamed Water's Edge was on Bar Rescue in 2019. Here is the update for that episode.

  1. Indeed, as I'm watching it now, it really feels like the "conflicts" between the waiting staff are fake. Taylor is not even working at Longshots/Balands, according to her FB page, but at Edge of Town.

  2. Unquestionably scripted. Could Taffer promote that shitty Angie's List any more?!?! The show is unwatchable.

  4. Cato: This show is heavily sponsored. The drink experts they bring in are all Diageo shills and all of the drinks feature Diageo brands. They very clearly remove all other brands from the back bar after the reveal, likely to stay that way for one night of filming. Once you come to terms with that, and all the fake drama, it's still an entertaining show to watch. I really wish they would play up the "bar science" a little more though. Taffer dropped some knowledge almost as an aside about 22-25% of bar space for dance floor max, I don't think he's mentioned that before. Most of the interesting facts in this show are just casually dropped like that. I noticed the butt funnel but he didn't even mention it.

Short list of sponsors at the end. Angie's List wasn't there either. Perhaps because of last weeks fiasco? Still looking for a stream of it.

  5. I go to those bars and "Badlands" which is still known as long shots I personally never saw a change besides the sign so kinda disappointed all around

  6. Yes, I agree that the best part is usually related to the 'bar science' aspect of the show. I wish they would focus more on that stuff, but I have a feeling that Jon may not want to reveal too many secrets, so to speak (this is his line of work after all).

It should be pointed out that not everything he proposes work "science wise." For example, the bar in the first season, where Jon introduced the butt funnel, quickly removed the funnel (if I remember correctly) after several customers complained. It was so bad that people were even complaining on review websites, such as Yelp, after the Bar Rescue visit.

  7. The first two seasons did focus more on the "science" of a good bar than on the drama. They may have a new show runner who has moved them into the more drama aspects.

  8. Yeah, if this guy owns three bars, then the producers at Bar Rescue have really dropped the ball on doing their homework or they just don't care.

  9. this is not scripted but edited very well. the only reason he did the "support best actor or actresses" thing is to get more people to come and get more tips. its not scripted one bit.

  10. It's a TV show, and part of what drives its popularity is the drama, so I doubt that they fact-check the sob stories they receive very carefully. If it looks to be good drama, and allows for a couple of Jon Taffer's trademark red-faced, vein-bulging lectures, I suspect that even when the producers are skeptical of the back story the bar has an edge for being chosen.

That said, the "It was all fake" claims that sometimes follow an episode invite a response that in most episodes there is evidence of bad management, bad product, bad marketing, bad staffing and/or bad hygiene that is clearly not faked.

  11. Try talking to her in person, she's very trashy and you can't even really stand talking to her for about five minutes.....she's also really into drugs

    ReplyDelete
  12. what's wrong with drugs? Alcohol is the most popular of the lot but that doesn't mean it's the best...

  13. I LOVE trashy lol.... shes just the hottest thing since sliced bread lol

  14. If this guy really owns three bars in town and owned them when the rescue was filmed then I feel like someone was being deceptive. The episode mentions the Whiskey Tango as the other country bar in town and primary competition. Other bars are not mentioned and he tearfully tells his staff and Jon that he is weeks away from losing the bar. That doesn't seem consistent with someone who owns three bars. I also found it unusual that Taylor was a part of the big early drama and then suddenly just didn't show up for work and was "fired". Then she wasn't even mentioned again, not even in the wrapup where they usually tell what has happened to someone who was let go.

I just found Bar Rescue a couple weeks ago and have very much enjoyed it. But, if it is not as authentic as we are led to believe, it does change my perception at least a little.

  15. The science end is no longer important because they really have no intentions of "helping" or "rescuing" any of these bars...it's all about ratings

  20. I think it's one thing to know all the secrets, but it's another to put all of them into practice, day in and day out. It seems like the common theme among all these failing bars is a degree of laziness. It takes a lot of hard work to run a bar well and no amount of knowledge can replace that. So I really doubt that Jon sees divulging his secrets as a threat to his business... especially since if he keeps running his bars well, he's guaranteed to see continuing customer base (and if the nearby bars do better, that will probably only help his own bars' business).

    ReplyDelete
  21. I somewhat disagree. I think that Jon really does put his reputation at stake, and does want to see them succeed. However, he as well as anybody must realize that these are failing bars, so many of them will probably return to their old ways in a matter of time. After all, if they were capable of running a successful bar, they wouldn't be failing in the first place.

And then there are all the people who insist they know better and reject Jon's changes because they don't like them. Those people are beyond saving.

  22. Ugh, just because you had a bad experience doesn't mean everyone does. You're not the end all be all expert on anything so save it.

  23. Rochelle,

I understand your frustration with your experience. Your situation is quite literally the definition of irony. However, I don't think it's fair to denigrate this show based upon your experience with Catch A Contractor. This site itself shows that 80% of the businesses shown are still around. And from what I can tell, more often than not these people are satisfied with what's been done (Howard from Scottsdale notwithstanding).

  24. Blah blah blah..you do know that you sound like an idiot, RIGHT??!!

    ReplyDelete
  25. Rochelle, it's obvious you just wanted to be a 15 min. Of fame celebrity, and now you have other issues - and for all I know, you disconnected something to KEEP your name in the papers!
Since when are you the all knowing reality show vixen?
Are you some sort of professional now?
What's your hard on with Taffer?
Let it go, get over it.

  26. I agree that it's scripted but still it's entertaining. I mean I love movies but those aren't real. When you have a camera following you around, you will not be yourself....

  29. It wasn't just that he was weeks away from losing the bar - it was stated he was a few weeks away from losing his house. So this whole things feels very deceptive to me.

  30. According to yelp, Google, and facebook. This place has closed. Not too sure why, but I am curious.

  31. Just saw the repeat Bar rescue today, and since I live near there I decided to check it out and found it closed - searching around to find out why, anyone?
