Spike TV Airs Pit and Barrel Episode of Bar Rescue

Photo - @HealthySpacesTN Twitter
As the owner Chris Michaels Ferrell of Pit and Barrel shot and killed musician Wayne Mills this weekend at Pit and Barrel, it was announced that the episode of Bar Rescue at the bar would not air.  According to Spike TV spokesperson Shana Tepper, the episode was pulled and a rerun would air in its place.

Well, someone dropped the ball on this one as the new episode at 10pm ET was pulled by Spike TV, however the encore Pit and Barrel (Music City Mess) episode still aired at 1am ET and 10pm PT.  Who knows if it will air in the future or if Spike TV will say anything about this.

Many fans are outraged and say they plan on never watching the show again after this, while others tuned in to see how the owner Chris would come across in the episode.

Here are some things to note from the episode.  See the picture above?  A Twitter follower (@HealthySpacesTN) had the screencap, and notice the sign in the background.  It is blown up to the right and says "Guns are welcome on premises."

Also, Chris came across as having a temper on this episode, and at the end of the episode, there was an update that said "Chris has not lost his temper with his staff."

As of now, the news out there is that Chris is claiming self defense, but obviously judging by the stated reason for the shooting (argument over smoking), that could change and bring charges.  I wonder if this episode of Bar Rescue will be used to help with any investigation or to be used as evidence?

11/25/2013 1:00pm.  Spike TV just released a statement apologizing that stated:
In our last minute effort over the weekend to pull the “Bar Rescue” episode featuring the Pit and Barrel, we regretfully did not remove a late-night telecast of the episode. We apologize to all those affected by the terrible tragedy over the weekend and to Jon Taffer, the production team, and our advertisers for our unfortunate human error.

  1. Total disrespect for Wayne's Family by running that episode!!!! Bar Rescue will never be watched by me again!

  2. It's a shame that a culture so passionate about their guns has to suffer the loss of one of their own to a gun. Losing an artist, friend, husband and/or father is both sad and tragic. Until this love affair with guns is over we will sadly endure more needless loss of loved ones.

  5. I watched the episode last night, knowing nothing about the shooting until I read this today. Sad to say, I am not surprised - the owner came off as a violent man who liked to belittle women. I'm so sorry that someone had to die, though. I also feel sorry for his parents - now, they will never be repaid.

    ReplyDelete
  6. While I agree that it was disrespectful, how is it the shows fault? The network is the one that ran it. Jon Taffer did not step into a control room and press play.

    ReplyDelete
  7. I will never watch this show again. how disrespectful to the family friends and fans.

    ReplyDelete
  8. I think the episode sheds light on the bar owners temper. This is a devastating crime and he will pay for it. However, the episode airing was the fault of Spike not Bar Rescue.

    ReplyDelete
  9. Ratings are higher then ever thanks to accidentally releasing this, oops we forgot to pull that edition, sorry.

    ReplyDelete
  10. Get a life people, this was not Taffer's doing. If you aren't gonna watch this show again due to the mix up, you better not watch Spike as a whole because they are the ones responsible for the airing, not the crew of Bar Rescue. #morons.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Trading ratings for dignity. Complete lack of respect for the victim's family. You've lost a long time viewer in myself.

    ReplyDelete
  12. Because all of you that are so angered by human error are SO DAMN PERFECT! Let me come bow down to your perfection

    ReplyDelete
  13. I would like to start a campaign to get Spike to air the episode.

    ReplyDelete
  14. Hi , does anyone know where to get a stream or a torrent of this episode? Can't seem to find one anywhere!

    ReplyDelete
  15. it was aired late last nite @ 1am est/

  16. How about calm the F### down. Yeah its a tragedy, but how does playing or not playing the episode matter? Let it go, it doesn't affect you directly. Its called freedom of speech people. All of you scaring SPIKE T.V are equivialent to terrorist by instilling fear into them to not play the episode.

  17. Not everyone is awake then dumbass

  18. Why would the state of Tennessee allow guns in bars? That is crazy, and wr need to be talking about that aspect. Tragic that a love of guns trumps commonsense: guns and alcohol don't mix.

    ReplyDelete
  19. Such an ignorant statement that belittles the real tragedy. You make it sound like all gun owners are responsible for this incident. Also, how do you know it wasn't self defense? Were you there? Is it now "Innocent Until Proven Guilty...or until Brian K decides"?

    ReplyDelete
  20. it was drv maybe u try b4 being rude!

    ReplyDelete
  21. I think they should put the episode into regular rotation and give all the profits to the Mills family.

    ReplyDelete
  22. I live in NYC, and saw it on tv latenight.

    ReplyDelete
  23. And when Taffer arrived, there was filth, bugs in the bottles, feces, rats, rotten food...And he gets mad over someone smoking?! He won't get along very well in lockup with that temper of his, and his big abusive mouth.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I saw it latenight, here in NYC, and it was one of their best episodes. I hope the DA can use it in the trial against the bar owner for killing that poor man who was smoking...And it was 2 hours after closing time (according to the 3am closing sign outside the bar).

    ReplyDelete
  25. No need to call anyone a "dumbass." There is a thing called DVR on your tv. You can schedule shows to record automatically.

    ReplyDelete
  26. It isn't the gun that killed the man. It is the fact that a very angry man, who had been on camera verbally abusing his staff, with a hair trigger temper, was in possession of the gun. Don't be ignorant.

    ReplyDelete
  27. I don't think there was anything wrong with that episode airing. I saw it, and I am glad I did. And with that mans temper and demeanor, I am not surprised he killed an innocent man for smoking. I hope the DA uses that episode as evidence to put him in prison.

    ReplyDelete
  28. Cindy, that is ridiculous. How is the episode a disrespect to Waynes family? And why would you never watch Bar Rescue again? They had nothing to do with Wayne's murder.

    ReplyDelete
  29. That is so stupid. That show didn't disrespect the victim. He wasn't even in the episode.

    ReplyDelete
  30. grrr I want to see this eps, want to know what kind of dude he is.
wish I had the DVR setup.

Well if Spike TV will not air it again the Net will get ahold of it one way or another.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Why was the episode pulled? Actors in movies go on to different roles and the sets get torn down like it never happened. Reality TV is different in that the people and places they are shot (filmed) still exist. Unless we put all these bars in snow globes after the rescue stuff is going to happen with either the people or the place. Get over it. Separate show related content with life related crap that has no relation to the show. If the family or friends don't wish to watch reruns of a show where a loved one was killed they THEY can self-censor. THEY have the ability to not watch a rerun of a TV show that doesn't feature their loved one.

    ReplyDelete
  32. ya i'd like to know where i can find this as well! I am in the same boat as you!

    ReplyDelete
  33. Oh...so instead of being pissed at the dumbass who did the shooting they are blaming the program....real smart!

    ReplyDelete
  34. there is a time and a place for guns.....a bar isn't one! guns are either used for hunting or as a weapon. I would say that yes guns do kill. that was the intention when they were made!

    ReplyDelete
  35. Here is what I think, Someone dies everyday. They post this on the news everyday. Do the families of the deceased boycott the news from airing this on the news NOOOO.. So if you don't want to watch the show don't .. There isn't anyone holding a gun to your head making you watch the episode or watching the news.. I wasn't able to watch the episode but I'm sure they didn't show him getting shot on the episode so whats all the outrage about..

    ReplyDelete
  36. I would like to see it too...

    ReplyDelete
  37. The bar expert for this episode, Trevor Frye, and the bar "employee" Mariesa Isbell have been dating for at least a year before this episode had been shot. The production team needs to be smarter, lest the show lose its 'reality TV' designation. Sloppy

    ReplyDelete
  38. I love this show and can't wait to see this episode. Nobody but these dumb ass bar owners can only blame their selves for not succeeding after Jon makes miracles.

    ReplyDelete
  39. Yeah, firearms and firewater do make a crummy mix. That said I don't mind the employees packing heat at a bar, because they shouldn't be drinking during hours of operation anyway.

That said Brian K(evorkian), don't be a self-righteous schmuck. Anti-gun laws are a gift to criminals, because what is one more law that they won't obey anyway (while their marks do).

    ReplyDelete
  40. He shot bullets out of his finger? I see now how the gun had nothing to do with it.

    It's a tool. Like you.

If he hadn't had a gun it would have been very hard for him to shoot. Hard to shoot people without a gun. Understand? Guns are tools that people use to shoot other people.

I do support the 2nd Amendment, Americans who are NOT violent ex-felons or mentally ill should be allowed to purchase guns with a minimum of hassle. WE should err on the side od freedom.

However, the NRA wants to allow criminals. terrorists, and crazy people to buy guns, mortars, and nuclear hand grenades because the NRA is a shill for gun manufacturers, not gun owners. President Bush the elder quit the NRA in a much publicicised move when the assault weapons ban was allowed to expire.

    ReplyDelete
  41. Same issue. I can't find one anywhere! Ricki Smith sure was helpful though huh...

    ReplyDelete
  42. Just air the f***ing episode already! Someone who puts torrents online had to have DVR'd it. That's the point of torrents!

    ReplyDelete
  43. Right, let us not forget that any-place labeled as a "gun-free zone" is the most likely place for a shooting to occur, because the shooter knows no one will be able to stop them. The Century theater was a gun-free zone and look how that turned out.

    ReplyDelete
  44. Not really that smart, anyone with a brain knows Jon wasn't enabling the guy.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Yes of course, because playing the episode or not playing it will bring him back to life. The episode is not about the country singer. There are shows on EVERYDAY about people who commit crimes. Last week there were 100's of shows about the JFK shooting. DOes that mean it was "disrespect" to the Kennedy's?

    ReplyDelete
  46. So any person who actually went to the bar and EVER had a drink was also "enabling" him? The country singer was there "enabling" him too. That is a giant stretch of logic on your part.

    ReplyDelete
  47. Did I give any indication I supported normal gun-free zones? I just acknowledged the one exception (stopped 24-hour watch) where John Q having a gun might be a horrendous idea. The employees having guns I agree with. They're not supposed to hit the sauce during working hours (and 6 before) anyway. If you're soused enough to need a designated driver you shouldn't be packing heat.

    ReplyDelete
  48. Yeah, blame the gun instead of the person holding it, moron.

    ReplyDelete
  49. Typical libtard posting.

    ReplyDelete
  50. I'm certain that Spike is crapping their pants at the loss.

    ReplyDelete
  51. Maybe Jon told him to kill a guy. You sad tard.

    ReplyDelete
  52. Typical redassed, rednecked, inbred sister-fucker, white trash response.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Plenty of people walk away from drunken fist fights. Practically no one walks away from a drunken gun fight. So you do the math, you fucking idiot.

The gun is what kills, not the person.

    ReplyDelete
  54. Very well said, Art. These rednecks are too stupid and illiterate to fathom that it's the gun specifically that kills people. Fist fights, knife stabbings, baseball bat beatings, etc., very rarely actually result in death. Gun shots, however, very frequently do.

The only thing I'd disagree with you on, however, is that as an American, I have lost all faith in the 2nd amendment. If I had any clout whatsoever in the American political system, it would be my one true cause, to repeal it from the constitution, as impractical as that cause might be.

    ReplyDelete
  55. Easy solution. Ban tobacco and guns. Only fucking inbred losers actually own either of them.

    ReplyDelete
  56. How come gun owners and Concealed Carry Permit owners are arrested at a higher rate than non-gun-owners? Why is a house with a gun in it 4 times more likely to be the site of a murder or suicide of a family member than a home with no guns? If you don't know the answer you shouldn't own a gun.

    ReplyDelete
  57. If a discussion about gun-control and the fact that a gun makes your home LESS safe makes you really angry - you probably should not own a gun.

    ReplyDelete
  58. You my friend are a moron. Guns don't kill, stupid people with guns do. The firearm is just a tool, same as a hammer or knife. You take a 1911 cocked and locked lay it on the table and it will not do anything. Now take that same firearm and place it in the hand of a mad man and see what happens. If guns kill how does anyone get out of a gunstore alive?

    ReplyDelete
  59. Let me see if I got this right. You're calling every Army Green Beret, Ranger, Delta force, Marine Recon and Navy Seal and inbred? After all they all own guns so by your logic they must be inbreds.

    ReplyDelete
  60. Let me see if I got this right. You're calling every Army Green Beret, Ranger, Delta force, Marine Recon and Navy Seal an inbred? After all they all own guns so by your logic they must be inbreds.

    ReplyDelete
  61. You know it's crazy. I have seen a lot, and I mean A LOT, of firearms just come up off a table or out of a gun cabinet, just firing away, of their own accord. I wonder why people shoot other people, when the gun is perfectly capable on its own...?

    ReplyDelete
  62. You would think it insensitive if it was your son or daughter. Shoe on the other foot, people. Understanding goes a long way.

    ReplyDelete
  63. This will just add fuel to the fire of ‘reality show’ irresponsibility and put it under the microscope! It’s no secret that many of these show’s producers attempt to agitate and ramp up the confrontational drama, and NOW it may have once again led to someone’s death. We’ll see...

Self-defense shooting a man in the BACK of the head with no weapon? Ok, dude, got ya'. It's called EGO. He killed because his ego and is trying to cover himself. Good luck to him in prison, he will pay dearly with that attitude and violent nature of his.

  67. "Anti-gun laws are a gift to criminals, because what is one more law that they won't obey anyway (while their marks do)."

"Right, let us not forget that any-place labeled as a "gun-free zone" is
the most likely place for a shooting to occur, because the shooter knows
no one will be able to stop them."

Oh, absolutely...I mean just look at the countries with restrictive gun policies and the massive numbers of people being killed by guns every year--like Australia (236 in 2010), the UK (146 in 2011), Japan (11 in 2008)--and then compare that with the teeny-tiny number of people killed by guns in the USA every year (32,163 in 2011)!

Given those statistics, you'd have to be a complete moron to think that restrictive gun policies and licensing requirements would drastically reduce the number of gun deaths each year. It's ludicrous!!

You gun nuts refuse to accept the truth that this country would benefit from regulating the right to own a gun with at least the same level of seriousness as we regulate the right to drive.

In the 10 years leading up to Australia's gun buy-back and gun licensing policies were enacted in 1996, there were 11 incidences of mass shootings. Since then, there have been...ZERO.

BTW, the number of mass shootings in the US since 1996? 50!!

What more needs to be said?

  73. Chicago has some of the strictest gun laws in the country and yet it's a war-zone. Explain that one.

    ReplyDelete
  74. Chicago is only a city...if it's not national, regulations are not going to have as much impact.

And Chicago's gun laws aren't THAT strict...compared to the countries where regulations have made a major difference.

    ReplyDelete
  75. these are statistics for LICENSED GUN DEATHS.

    ReplyDelete
  76. That's some A+ logic. The point is that guns are not the problem. Despite what you may think in Chicago it is very hard to LEGALLY buy or carry a firearm. That's not to say that the illegal market isn't thriving. People do not commit crimes with licensed firearms, its common sense. WHY are people killing each other is the question, not HOW. Over the past years there have been many reputable studies confirming there is no correlation between decreasing violent crime and increasing regulation. Check out this Harvard study and see just how wrong you are: http://www.law.harvard.edu/students/orgs/jlpp/Vol30_No2_KatesMauseronline.pdf

  77. http://www.free-tv-video-online.me/

You can see it if they have it on there. You'll have to look up what episode number this one was, but they might have it :)

    ReplyDelete
  78. It's pointless to argue with you. I've already cited examples of other nations whose incidence of gun violence is only a small fraction of US statistics (due to the gun policies adopted by each country), and yet you refuse to even entertain the thought that the ease with which anyone can purchase lethal firearms in this country might have something to do with the unquestionably outrageous incidences of gun violence we routinely experience. And here's a thought--most of the guns sold illegally started out as legally purchased firearms and were either lost, stolen or illegally sold from a careless owner or unscrupulous dealer. Less legal guns=less guns available to acquire illegally.

How do you account for the disparity in statistics, if not for the effectiveness of the gun regulation policies in those countries?

    ReplyDelete
  79. Correlation is not causation. Read the scientific journal article from Harvard that I posted- it explains why you're wrong quite well. Consider reading before spreading sophomoric propaganda. You're kind of thinking distracts people from getting at the root of the problem which the experts, i.e., people a lot smarter than you, have stressed is the key to stopping gun violence. Read. Think. Don't be a sheep.

    ReplyDelete
  80. what, where do i watch music city mess from what site...ty

    ReplyDelete
  81. This is an irrational comment. Do you also have road rage? I hope you don't carry a gun.

    ReplyDelete
  82. Obviously, the airing of the episode had nothing to do with the tragic incident. Although it aired in a repeat telecast by someone who worked third shift and unaware of the daily events, the bar will not prevail due to the fact that the owner has been arrested for murder and, if you go to the Spike website and look at the episode guide for Bar Rescue, you will not find any trace of the episode so, even with the human error of one showing, Spike redeemed themselves to those who demanded the episode not be aired. I viewed the episode. The owner is a hothead not unlike many of the owners shown on Bar Rescue. Thank you, NRA and TN law for allowing hothead bar owners to decide whether guns should be allowed in their public establishments. If not for the fact that the owner was, legally, packing, and the only armed person, the incident would have ended with a fist fight at worst.

    ReplyDelete
  83. When only one person is armed and that person shoots an unarmed person to death...what do you really think? Alcohol, 5AM and guns are a perfect cocktail for trouble. The bar owner has been arrested for murder. The police couldn't establish how it's possible for an armed person to claim self defense. Makes sense.

    ReplyDelete
  84. Can anyone share this episode if they DVR'd it. Bar rescue fans deserve a chance to watch it. where can I find this episode???

    ReplyDelete
  85. The real reason for countries having restrictive gun laws is to make sure the people cannot revolt against the government! That's why the Founding Fathers put the 2nd Amendment in! Why don't those of you who hate guns go to one of the already "regulated" countries?

    ReplyDelete
  86. The Founding Fathers were human and as prone to making bad decisions as anyone else. This was paranoid- and fear-based legislation which has never been utilized for the purpose for which it was created. Their concept of "well-armed militia" was a musket which could maybe fire a single round every 2 minutes. They could not have imagined that as a result of this amendment, any lunatic could own weapons which fire hundreds of rounds per minute.

As for your suggestion, I have no intention of leaving my country--why should I? So that you won't have to think about and justify your position? Sorry, but no.

I will, however, exercise my right to speak out on issues. Much as it pains you to hear it, THAT'S in the constitution as well, and (unlike your favorite amendment) no one has been killed as a direct result of it.

    ReplyDelete
  87. Guessing still no luck in finding the episode online? I've definitely searched a bunch

    ReplyDelete
  88. No shit ppl. But if you get east coast channels and see its not a new show, then no need to watch the one at 10. Fuckn dumbasses.

    ReplyDelete
  89. I agree. The episode should air. This has nothing to do with the event. Sad but Spike shouldn't be on the hot seat.

    ReplyDelete
  90. There is no reason for it not to air. Spike is not responsible for this.

    ReplyDelete
  91. I think the reason they pulled it is because Jon was just in there helping the guy rescue his bar and some people could look at it as though Jon enabled the guy to be a killer. I'm not saying he did, I'm just saying this is all political and could look bad for Spike or Bar Rescue so they pulled the episode (or attempted to do so). Smart move on their part.

    ReplyDelete
  92. well so far I cant find it anywhere.
    someone needs to upload it.

    ReplyDelete
  93. OMG! GET OVER IT! They shouldn't have to pull the episode! It isn't being insensitive to air it! Sad that he died, but it's not as though the death was on the episode! "Oh, the singer died here so you can't air the episode shot in that bar BEFORE it happened" SERIOUSLY!

    ReplyDelete
  94. Their concept of a "well-armed militia" was a group of citizens that stood a chance against their tyrannical government. You clearly have no clue what you're talking about.

    ReplyDelete
  95. Guns are also tools used for recreational target practice, and hunting game. What's your point? A small minority of people use them to kill other people. So? Obviously the problem isn't with guns, it's with the use of them.

I have news for you: criminals are criminals. Meaning, criminals break the law. Meaning, criminals break gun laws. Duh. MORE GUN LAWS WILL NOT STOP CRIMINALS FROM GETTING GUNS. All it will do is prevent the law-abiding citizens from getting guns. In the mean time, it also restricts those law-abiding citizens and catalogs them in a handy database that the government can use when they decide to assert stronger authority over them. I just don't see how gun laws benefit anyone other than the government and criminals.

    ReplyDelete
  96. @natelan

No, dumbass, violence kills people. I guess you're not aware of the knife violence that takes place in "gun-free" England. Remove the most powerful weapons from the criminals' possession (that's assuming your gun laws actually remove the guns from their possession, which they don't) and they will simply use the next most lethal available item.

Yeah, the 2nd Amendment is what is wrong with the American political system! Wow, you must be a product of public education. You've been spending too much time thinking. You better go "pledge allegiance" to a damn FLAG.

    ReplyDelete
  97. I think a better solution is to shoot all the morons. That would include you, incidentally.

    ReplyDelete
  98. How does a gun make one's home less safe? Perhaps it makes YOUR home less safe, because you keep it loaded and out in the open and you fire at will. Not everyone is as dumb as you. I shouldn't be punished for YOUR stupidity.

    ReplyDelete
  99. Hey, you fucking cunt... Let's do the math... Do knives kill with the same efficiency that guns do? Can you kill someone with a knife from a few hundred feet away, like you can with a gun?

People stand a MUCH greater chance of surviving a maniac with a knife, than they do a maniac with a gun, you fucking moron.

    ReplyDelete
  100. Hey dipshit, you don't use "tools" for entertainment value, that's called a toy.

You've proven my point, you dick licker.

    ReplyDelete
  101. Funny, because as a gun owner, YOU are 43 times more likely to get shot, you fucking zombie trash.

    ReplyDelete
  102. Easy, rarson, it's called math, statistics and facts. People living in a home where at least one person owns at least one gun, are 43 times more likely to be shot or killed by a gun, than those people who live in a home where a gun is NOT present.

Eat a dick and enjoy reality.

    ReplyDelete
  103. Humans are emotional creatures. They often aspire to kill others. Rarely, they succeed in killing another WITHOUT a gun, but often they succeed in killing another WITH a gun. That means that GUNS are the deciding factor with regard to human lethality.

Just because a gun cannot shoot someone on its own, doesn't mean it's a harmless object. Even in the hands of a well-trained marksman, mistakes happen. In the hands of a lunatic, they make deranged thoughts of homicide a reality. A lunatic WITHOUT a gun is a danger to others' health, but WITH a gun, they are a danger to others' LIVES.

    ReplyDelete
  104. That's your interpretation of the amendment, since it does not specifically state a definition. I have a completely different interpretation than you do. Your interpretation is no more valid than mine, but you THINK it is, because you are a narcissistic chicken-fucker.

    ReplyDelete
  105. Holy crap...you gun nuts will go to any lengths and twist yourself into any illogical pretzel of an argument to avoid facing facts about your favorite phallic symbols.

The fact that you are so rabidly against any sort of common sense regulation that might reduce the astonishingly high numbers of people killed by guns in this country is an example of the warped values of the conservative mind.

    ReplyDelete
  106. So you're saying there is no such thing as a target shooting gun?

    ReplyDelete
  107. Hey @Cathy, what's it like being so perfect? I'm guessing you NEVER make mistakes then.
Also, what's it like being an idiot?? It was an error on SPIKE's behalf, not Bar Rescue or Taffer's.
Anyway, I'm very grateful that a moron like you will no longer be watching a show like someone like me!

This redneck has never seen a gun jump up and shoot . I have seen a lot of uneducated people pick up guns and not have a clue about the true responsibility. The people like me and my fellow neighbors know the power and respect it. Mass killing and wars were going on long before guns. Always excusses for ones own failures. Time for the blame to go to the people responsible not the weapon they use

    ReplyDelete
  109. I think everyone is missing the point here. This debate didn't get started over gun rights and whether or not this tragedy was self-defense. This is about the ACCIDENT committed by SPIKE TV when they forgot to pull the encore of the episode. I'm sure they are terribly sorry, but don't make this a bigger deal than it already is.

  111. It just so happened that Bar Rescued helped them out. If Bar Rescue would have never came and helped, the owner would still be an asshole with a temper. Although I do agree that the episode should not air, I don't think that Spike had any malice in accidentally airing it.

  112. Art, you have no idea what you're talking about. The NRA doesn't want the NRA doesn't support felons being able to own firearms. As far as mentally ill, there are different kinds of mentally ill, you can't classify them all monolithically.

Also, don't pretend that you support the 2nd amendment when you clearly don't. People like you always say "I support the second amendment but..." If you knew anything about guns, you would know that there is no such thing as an assault weapon.

    ReplyDelete
  113. Guns don't kill people, people kill people. He could have just as easily stabbed him. Are we going to outlaw knives too? They should not be in a bar because alcohol inhibits judgement. And in any state that allows guns to be carried it is illegal to carry it while even having a sip of alcohol. So outlawing guns isn't going to stop pee getting kied because people will either use a different method or get them illegaly.
I don't have a better solution for violence but I don't believe gun control solves anything.

  114. People and illegally. The app was messed up

  115. How's the gun violence in Mexico??????? They can't buy guns either. You can pull any stats and use them however you want but the bottom line is statistics can be used for both sides. Mexico has one of the highest shooting rates but they don't se guns. Or ammo. The illegally import it from other countries. And before u ask yes the USA is one of them but so is all of South America and Central America.

    ReplyDelete
  116. Hey now I was publication educated in California and I understand that guns don't kill people people kill people. Don't throw all of us publicly educated folks under the bus. There is a time and place for guns. And I don't have an issue with a background check or waiting list because I don't want some crackpot that just got fired or dumped or fresh out of prison going and buying a gun on a whim blowing out their local mall or gas station or anything else. But I do not believe guns should be banned from everyone. There are envy of law obiding citizens that want guns for protection or hunting and I'm fine with that.

    ReplyDelete
  117. Watch your language. Or can't you stand that you have no factual basis for your argument so you have to resort to obscene language and insults? Oh I get it. Carry on with the only tools you have. Leave the actual debate for those of us with a larger than two digit IQ.

    ReplyDelete
  118. Really rarely are people killed with other weapons. I had two friends murdered by a hammer. Should we outlaw those too. The guy was a lunatic. He would have killed them no matter what was there. He grabbed the first thing available. And he hit them both over the head over and over. Humans are violent beings. So are our cousins the apes. We think we are sophisticated and beyond that savage behavior but when someone snaps it does not matter the weapon they choose. They will kill with whatever they can.
But hey you contractors watch out he might be coming for your tools next. Cause u know the gun aims and shoots by itself.

    ReplyDelete
  119. You know that not everyone with a gun is some idiot redneck right? And not all rednecks are idiots and not all idiots are country bumpkins. You have proven that.

    ReplyDelete
  120. No reason to insult the guy for his opinion on why they pulled it. The bottom line is with all the political BS that happens on tv today if there is anything that may be slightly controversial about a show it is guilty until proven innocent. Perhaps spike could offer it as a special download for a dollar and all proceeds go to the family. Then. People can make their own choice.

    ReplyDelete
  121. Yeah and he still would have probably killed the guy but none of us would have ever heard of him. They should air the episode and help the family. Pay it forward.

    ReplyDelete
  122. Where do you get the idea that "they can't buy guns" in Mexico? While they have laws that are supposedly restrictive, citizens can legally own guns if they possess a license. However, the gun laws in Mexico aren't strictly enforced. Gun shows or sales through arms brokers isn't regulated, and the level of illegal smuggling of guns and ammo is incredibly high (since they have a seemingly unlimited source right next door).

So if Mexico has restrictive gun laws on paper, yet doesn't enforce those laws, then you can't really hold them up as an example of the failure of firearms regulation, can you? No, you can't...it's a failure of law enforcement in a country with a long tradition of corruption and/or incompetence in governmental institutions.

But when you look at countries with rational firearms regulation that take gun laws seriously and actively enforce those laws, the level of gun violence and number of deaths by gunfire drop dramatically.

That is simply a fact. But you gun zealots are so obsessive and disturbingly fixated on having absolutely no restrictions on any type of firearm or ammunition now or in the future that you become willfully blind and deaf to the notion that there might possibly be a better, more rational, more SANE path to reducing gun violence and death in this country. You simply refuse to even consider it.

    ReplyDelete
  123. Never said there shouldn't be any restrictions. I don't think the average joe needs and assult rifle or sniper rifle that shoots from a mile away. Those should be specially licensed. But with the state of our government I wouldn't mind a well armed militia without the government crazys having everyone e on their crazy list.

    ReplyDelete
  124. That's one of those ideas that sound good in theory, but is terrifying in practice. It was (maybe) a sound idea back in the 1700's, but doesn't function in the same way today. There are many militia groups in various parts of the country (armed to the teeth), and they in no way make me feel safer because they exist. In fact, I feel LESS safe because there are so many of them.

I mean, have you seen those guys? Heard them speak? What about the state of our government makes you believe we're better off with those militia guys in control?

  127. "The strongest reason for people
to retain the right to keep and bear arms is, as a last resort, to
protect themselves against tyranny in government." -- (Thomas Jefferson)

I agree with this statement, now more than ever with the increasing scope of the federal government. I'm not a Republican or Democrat. I've never owned a gun and have only used one once 15 years ago at a skeet shooting range. I'm not a gun nut.

Take a look at the dictatorships and the millions that have perished under these regimes just in the 20th century. Don't think it can't happen in America. Just take a look around at what both parties are doing along with their corporate cronies that surround them. Wake up, man.

    ReplyDelete
  128. You might agree with that statement, but it wasn't made by Thomas Jefferson. It's another of the various bogus quotations invented by gun nuts to support and somehow validate their intransigent positions.

Also, although you may not be a republican or democrat, you're definitely a paranoid alarmist conspiracy freak...which means there's a seat waiting for you at the tea party!

And, just to play along with your silly adolescent prognostication, if the federal government of this country--with it's military, weaponry, law enforcement and intelligence agencies, etc. at it's beck and call--went to war with the citizenry, no backwoods redneck amateur regular-joe militia is going to pose any sort of consequential threat.

Not that I believe that it's even a plausible possibility anyway. I feel silly for even having entertained the idea for your benefit.

    ReplyDelete
  129. Even if the quote is bogus, I do agree with the statement. I'm not a paranoid, alarmist conspiracy freak, either. It amazes me that people like you are more concerned with the NRA than the NSA, etc. And I'm not some adolescent backwoods redneck, either. Why are your statements filled with such hate and vitriol?

    ReplyDelete
  130. Where, exactly, have I said anything to you that is hateful or vitriolic?

    ReplyDelete
  131. There is a reason you have one of the highest murder.rates in the world...sad....go ahead keep killing yourselfs...the rest of the world.just laughs at you all and your war culture....

  132. I wish you were the next statistic natelan. So fucking annoying and ignorant

    ReplyDelete
  133. Yes their gun violence is but they still have murders. Because people are violent and still find a way to kill. And they always will. So gun laws are hurting the hunters and the sport shooters and the guy that just wants to feel safer at night. Good job gun control freaks.

    ReplyDelete
  134. Yes I have seen those guys. Many want anarchy. But the majority are just preparing in case their is a breakdown in government or a huge disaster or other reasons that they may feel the need to defend their family and community. That is what the 2nd amendment was written for. As far as the "gun nuts" twisting things you never answered the question of how many unlicensed murders there were in these other countries. You also never stated a stat on other violence and murder. The gun is only one tool to commit a crime. There are many others like knives and hanners and other stuff. If someone wants to kill they will find a way. And why do you assume everyone who believes in gun ownership is a backwoods redneck idiot. I am a well educated woman from Orange County California. And perhaps you should get to know some back woods rednecks, they are way more intelligent than idiots that spout off stats to satisfy their own misguided logic.

    ReplyDelete
  135. Why can you not construct a valid arrgument without being an offensive, profane pig. Try using the English language in a positive way. The basic problem is you cannot come up with facts to back up your points so you just throw out obscene insults.
Now back to your gun efficiency argument. Yes guns are a more efficient killing method than older weapon systems, that is why they were invented. They evolved from older weapons. That's how humans have developed over the generations. You wouldn't develop a new weapon that was less efficient. Plenty of people are killed every year with knives, hammers, fists, etc. I have said I had friends killed with a hammer. People are violent. They will kill when they want to kill and do it with whatever they have available. If they don't have a gun they will use something else but they will still kill. If it isn't as efficient they will just work harder at it. They will stick with it though because their goal is to kill that other person. That's what murder is.
The other option is they will get their guns illegally. In so cal the gangs and such in la all have guns. How many of them do you think walked into a gun store and bought them. They buy or steal them in the neighborhood. When they buy them it is from other gang members that have illegally purchased them. Look I to it. They are criminals. Most of your statistics on gun violence are these types of crimes. So stop twisting your stats to your own benefit and use your brain. Guns don't jump up and kill by themselves. And violence doesn't leave human nature when you eliminate guns. Get a grip.
Violence isn't erased without guns just redirected.

    ReplyDelete
  136. Yes, people are violent and will find a way to kill. But a violent person without a gun cannot possibly rack up the number of kills that he would have with a gun. How can you not see that?

By reducing the number of guns that are so easily obtained with absolutely no restriction and by regulating automatic and semi-automatic weapons (along with high-capacity clips), "the guy" in your example should feel safer at night. And his kids should feel safer at school. And his wife/partner should feel safer at the mall.

What specific gun laws are hurting hunters or "sports shooters" (whatever that means)? And in what way are they "hurt?"

    ReplyDelete
  137. I have answered the question, but I'll be even more clear:

Total Murder Rates (including gun deaths) per 100,000 (2012 statistics):
    Japan........0.3
    UK.............1.0
    Australia....1.1
    Canada......1.6
    USA...........4.8

Can you still not see that there is a major difference between the countries which regulate or restrict gun ownership vs the free-for-all happening in this country?

I'm not even suggesting a ban on guns. Just some common-sense regulation and requirements which must be met in order to qualify for gun ownership would go a long way towards curbing this country's epidemic of gun violence. We require more training and testing for a cosmetology license than we do for gun ownership, for chrissakes!

And, btw, I was raised in the backwoods of East Texas, so I have gotten to know more rednecks than you could possibly imagine. I now live in Los Angeles, so I have experiences with people from each perspective. And I can say without hesitation that I would much rather have gun law influenced by an educated person who studies data in order to arrive at an informed conclusion than I would from an under-educated paranoid conspiracy-theory-obsessed militia-affiliated redneck.

Which is not to say that everyone living in the "backwoods" is uninformed or uneducated, no more than everyone living in an urban area is educated or informed. Hell, you're proof of that.

But these people who are so intractable in their obsession with guns that they refuse to entertain any concept--regardless of the merits--other than a policy of completely unregulated firearms for everyone seem to be a particularly redneck 'Merican brand of stupidity, no matter where they reside.

    ReplyDelete
  138. No other country on the planet has the level of mass shooting America does. I wonder why? Maybe because they outlaw guns?

Thankfully the neanderthals that worship guns are a dying breed, dropping nearly 50% in the last 30 years. A few more generations and the backwards mouth breathers will hopefully finally die off.

I will say this for guns though, statistically, it has been proven that a gun is 5 times more likely to kill a gun owner than a non gun owner, so while tragic, it does seem to be a self correcting problem.

    ReplyDelete
  139. You mean countries without a constitution and without the 2nd amendment. If you really wanna move to those places we won't stop ya.

    ReplyDelete
  140. You clearly have no idea what I mean. And, no, I don't want to move anywhere--sorry if that disappoints you.

Look, people are going to disagree about this subject. Try contributing to the debate rather than being obtuse and dismissive. Maybe then you won't be so "boring," Josh.

    ReplyDelete
  141. You should take your stats, and compare the murder rates of cities that have tough regulation on guns and compare it to cities that have very little regulation. Chicago is the most violent city in the country and they have banned guns. I am not sure how that will work nationwide. I don't want Chicago South Side coming to KC.

    ReplyDelete
  142. I've explained this in a couple of other replies, but I'll repeat it for you, since you apparently can't be bothered to read through for yourself--because this country has such inconsequential national regulations on guns, regulations in a single city won't make much of a difference in the number of guns acquired. People will just go to the next city and buy their guns there, or buy them privately, etc.

Unless this country gets serious and commits to sensible sane firearms policies that will treat owning and using guns with at least the same prudence and diligence that is shown towards granting a driver's license--and will be enforceable everywhere--it's pointless to do a city-by-city comparison based on your criteria.

Also, you are incorrect about Chicago. It's not "the most violent city in the country." And even if it were true, their gun regulations wouldn't be the cause, so...you haven't proved your point.

    ReplyDelete
  143. So somehow you believe that the people who own guns legally and follow the law, don't shoot people, have all the permits should be restricted though its the people who don't follow the law, don't care about the law, say f*** the police and don't have all the permits that are causing the problems. If you look at the shootings in America, I would bet most of the guns were bought on the black market, by people who wouldn't pass a background check and have no regard for the laws you think would stop them. How would you do this? Say no guns period? What do you do if someone breaks into your house and is threatening your wife or child and you don't have access to a gun? What if that person cut your phone line? What if he decided he wanted to rape your wife at gunpoint? Your daughter? You can call the police all you want, but in that 10 minutes before they show up, are you will to have your family violated? What if this happened when you were walking down a street somewhere? A Parking Lot leaving a mall in the middle of the night? You can call the police all you want, but police can't prevent crime, then can deter it, and they can punish for it, but the will not prevent it. You have to have some personal responsibility for your own safety, otherwise if you are in the wrong place at the wrong time, you could be another one of those statistics.

    ReplyDelete
  144. A good start would be to enact comprehensive regulations of firearms sales that apply to all 50 states, rather than the widely varying laws from state to state that we currently have. Of course, you'd have to get the NRA out of the way first, since they are among the biggest enablers for the illegal sales and trafficking of guns.

About 8% of this country's gun dealers sell the majority of guns used in crimes. Having uniform laws and requirements across the country would make it less difficult to monitor the activities of those dealers, which would result in fewer new guns becoming available to replenish the market.

I obviously don't have all the solutions. But what I do have is logic and reason, so I can do research and read statistics and understand that the United State's unfettered fetish for guns is out of control. Thousands of people die each year as a result and something needs to be done. A study in 2010 showed that 31,076 lives were taken in gun-related violence. That's 85 deaths a day and more than 3 deaths every hour.

When you compare that to countries that have a less cavalier attitude about the prevalence of guns, the differences are astounding and undeniable. I've listed them here more than once, but you refuse to acknowledge the disparity.

The bogeyman scenarios you provided, while scary, are not likely. And in those situations, as unwelcome as it is to hear it, having a gun on you is not likely to do you any good. To have the reactions essential to successfully take down an assailant in a high-stress chaotic crisis situation takes extensive training and continuous drilling, which no one has the time or inclination to undertake. Even cops must continually drill in order to maintain their training--they can lose that skill if they go even a month or two without training and practice (TIME, 01/16/2013).

But, to people like you--who believe they will have the reactions of Rambo when the time comes--this sort of information is completely dismissed. You also ignore the fact that having a gun in your home raises the likelihood that a family member will be killed by nearly three times, not to mention the heightened risk for suicides and accidental death.

You refuse to look at the bigger picture or concede that anything other than completely unrestricted access to guns would be helpful in turning the rising tide of gun violence in this country. People like you won't be satisfied until each and every man, woman and child is packing heat. Then, you foolishly believe, you'll be protected.

But keep in mind, many of those people live in Florida...is it really a good idea to let those people have more guns? I mean, come on...
